About Greece:
Greece is the ideal place for a surreal escape to the endless blue. Its seas and islands need no further introduction.

Deserted sandy beaches that cannot be reached by land are in abundance.

Escaping to the blue by boat has its own unique charm that is linked to man’s primordial need to become an integral part of nature.

A trip on the calm Greek waters offers you the opportunity to sail among extremely beautiful clusters of islands, to anchor in naturally protected bays of rare beauty and to visit otherwise inaccessible golden sandy beaches.

Sailing in Greece with Sail Aweigh:
The islands situated in the Saronic Gulf southwest of Athens are amongst the most beautiful and interesting of all the Greek islands. The volcanic Cyclades, to the southeast, offer old 'postcard' Greece with bustling modern towns, well-equipped marinas in hamlets of whitewashed buildings with their traditional blue roofs. Around every headland a surprise awaits the eye - scenic beauty beyond your wildest dreams!

The Greek people are warm and welcoming while their beautiful country offers long stretches of sandy beaches, fragrant pine forest, rocky capes against a backdrop of brilliant sunshine and crystal blue water. Volcanic islands, therapeutic heated springs, beach-bars and restaurants serving local fresh cuisine....and locally produces fine wines too, if you're in the mood.

In May the daytime temperatures are well into the 20's and rarely drop below 16°C even at night.
The prevailing winds (Meltemi) can get quite strong from early June onwards and make for a great sailing experience.
On our skippered boats, usually 46 - 53ft in length, you can learn to sail in the care of our skippers. Work towards your practical qualifications, brush up on theory, seamanship and helming skills, if you prefer, just relax and enjoy the day as the world sails by.

A Day in the life with Sail Aweigh:
Our day typically begins around 07:00 with a swim before breakfast, then a quick run to the shops to stock-up on bread, milk, fruit and veg then we slip the berth and get underway by 9.

We'll sail until about noon when the day is getting hot and it's time for a dip in the nearest cove or beach, followed by lunch onboard and away again as the afternoon breeze freshens up and we get some serious sailing done enroute to our next port of call.

We like to get you berthed by 5pm to ensure a good spot with ready access to the town and its amenities for the night. Once the boat is secured we'll have a debrief and you're free to come and go as you wish for the rest of the night.

Evenings are normally spent together enjoying a meal ashore with a local wine, chatting about the day gone and planning the next as the sun sets over the calm azure sea.

Those Turquoise Blue seas HAVE to be seen to be believed!

The Cyclades Islands are where the true magic lies. These offer great sailing but may be curtailed if the prevailing Meltemi winds are blowing too hard (can happen June - August but we've been really lucky every trip in the past!)

A new port on a different island every night - Syros, Kythnos, Serifos and Milos just a few. On most nights we'll be alongside a town quay, others at anchor in secluded bays with food and entertainment in local bars and tavernas nearby.

Back in Athens on the last day it's imperative to explore this fascinating ancient city. Don't miss the Parthenon and new Acropolis Museum or enjoy some retail therapy through the bustling streets of the modern and vibrant city centre.
